Dorian Yates' bodybuilding: from method to legend

Nicknamed  in the world of bodybuilding, for his surprising and unexpected appearances During tournaments, Dorian Yates became, over the years of his training, a mythical figure in British bodybuilding.

Dorian Yates achieved ultimate success, winning the Mr. Olympia title six years in a row between 1992 and 1997.. His success is largely due to a specific training method: HIT, or High Intensity Training. Many bodybuilding enthusiasts envy the size of his back and calves.

 A simplified, high-intensity workout:

Dorian Andrew Mientjez Yates was born on April 19, 1962, in the West Midlands of England, in Sutton Coldfield.

In order to build such a colossal physique, Dorian Yates opted for relatively short and intense training sessions where he performed only a single set of exercises.. His practice was in total opposition to the usual training methods which involved several sets of exercises and proved to be quite lengthy.

His video was released in 1996., « Blood and Guts » reveals all the intensity of his training where we discover Dorian lifting enormous loads, He even went so far as to enlist the help of his training partner for forced repetitions. Muscle stimulation was at its peak. Dorian exhausted his muscles in a very short time, requiring more recovery time.

Result : an extraordinarily developed back, a mass gain spectacular and high quality. With such training, Dorian Yates managed to reach 145 kilos outside of tournaments and 132 kilos during competitions with biceps of 55 cm in diameter.

However, Dorian Yates emphasizes today that this type of training is strongly discouraged for beginners. He explains that he himself reached such intensity in a single exercise, gradually. Therefore, he advises aspiring bodybuilders to progress progressively in their training to avoid potential injuries.

From his training, the Yates Rowing was born:

Dorian Yates distinguished himself through his training and his imposing physique. From his journey and image emerged the Rowing Yates. This exercise has since been adopted by many bodybuilding enthusiasts.

The exercise consists of working the back muscles to ensure maximum muscle development by primarily engaging the middle and lower trapezius muscles.

The exercise is performed standing with legs slightly bent. The torso leans forward at approximately 45 degrees. The hands are in a pronated grip. In this position, the goal is to pull the bar towards you, bringing it down towards your lower abdomen, while keeping the arms relatively straight, as the movement should be performed by the forward and backward movement of the shoulders.

This movement, the Yates Rowing, has become quite popular in gyms and has been popularized on forums as well as through numerous videos on YouTube.
