Drostanolone Propionate, or Masteron, is probably one of the most interesting steroids used by athletes. It is primarily intended for treating breast cancer patients by inhibiting estrogen production. Estrogen is the hormone secreted by females that gives them their distinct sexual characteristics. Maseril, the brand name for Drostanolone Propionate, when used in breast cancer treatment, is combined with SERMs (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators). There was a decrease in estrogen levels in women who underwent treatment using this hormone. Masteron became a favorite steroid among athletes and bodybuilders. It is a very popular anabolic steroid. Masteron is a derivative of dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, which limits its conversion to estrogen through aromatization. It's possible that its ability to inhibit estrogen interacts with the aromatase enzyme or that it blocks the estrogen-binding receptor responsible for this phenomenon. Whatever the reason, due to its anti-estrogenic properties, it blocks the conversion of free testosterone to estrogen through aromatization. This makes Masteron a common inclusion in high-anabolic cycles. Since the compounds used in cycles for mass and strength gains have a very potent testosterone content, Masteron is used to prevent estrogenic side effects.
Side effects include bloating or water retention and gynecomastia. While some believe there is minimal aromatization with Masteron, it still has significant androgenic side effects that should be expected when using this steroid. These can include episodes of oily skin, acne, and increased body/facial hair growth. Anabolic/androgenic steroids can also exacerbate hair loss in men. Anabolic/androgenic steroids can have detrimental effects on serum cholesterol.
