Mesterolone (Proviron) is dosed at 20 mg per tablet. It is not an anabolic steroid but a very potent anti-estrogen. It prevents gynecomastia, while reducing water and fat retention, and allows for the resumption of testosterone production in the testicles, while preventing the aromatization of anabolic steroids.
Proviron acts as an anti-aromatic: it prevents the aromatization (the conversion) of anabolic steroids into estrogens. It thus prevents gynecomastia. It can be combined with Nolvadex to increase its effectiveness. It's important to note that Proviron and Nolvadex are both anti-estrogens with different yet complementary mechanisms of action, which is why combining these two products is so effective: while Proviron prevents the aromatization of anabolic steroids, Nolvadex blocks estrogen receptor cells, preventing estrogen from acting. This makes for a formidable combination.
Proviron is not only an excellent anti-estrogen: by maintaining low estrogen levels, it also reduces water retention. This gives the user the ripped look sought after by so many bodybuilders, especially when preparing for competitions.
It should be noted that Proviron tends to limit muscle gains from a steroid cycle because it binds to androgen receptor cells instead of other steroids present in the body, which then remain blocked outside and therefore ineffective. This is why many bodybuilders take a minimal dose of Proviron, just to avoid gynecomastia.
Regarding the side effects of mesterolone, they are rare below 100 mg per day. This is because Proviron tablets are not alpha-alkylated 17 and therefore do not pose any risk to the liver. However, if the dosage exceeds 75 to 100 mg per day, phenomena such as priapism (a painful condition in which the penis does not return to its normal flaccid state after erection) and virilization in women frequently occur.
